The 2010 season saw players rise up from almost nowhere. Fremantle’s Michael Barlow, Brisbane’s Tom Rockliff and Essendon’s Ben Howlett all made massive gains and stamped themselves as regular starters for their respective clubs as they all consistently performed through the year. The flops for the season were Brisbane’s troublesome star Brendan Fevola, Melbourne’s Paul Johnson and Richmond’s inconsistent high draft pick Richard Tambling. Those players will look to have much more of an impact in the 2011 premiership season.

It is no surprise the premiers for the 2010 season were the biggest gainers. Collingwood’s share price increased by over 35% for the year as they marched towards their 15th premiership flag. Other notable gainers were Fremantle and Sydney who were teams not considered to feature in the finals at the start of the year. The biggest losers for the season were Brisbane, Adelaide and St Kilda. All clubs were touted to feature heavily in September but their failure saw their share price drop by 15%.

Collingwood and St Kilda players, just as the result, shared the spoils in the biggest gainers and losers for the round. Collingwood’s Alan Toovey and St Kilda’s Sean Dempster who are not regarded as genuine superstars each saw their share price rise through the roof following their performances. Injured ruckman, St Kilda’s Michael Gardiner and the experienced finals bystander Collingwood’s Leon Davis each lost over 30% of their share price. Both players can now be bought for under $2.20.

The drawn game saw both Collingwood and St Kilda as the losers of the week. Both clubs saw losses of approximately 1% and will look at turning the negative into a positive in the rematch.

Coming into the second last week of the finals series, Collingwood’s Alan Toovey and Western Bulldogs’ Callan Ward both stood up under enormous pressure to turn in sensational performances. They earned the label of the biggest gainers of the preliminary finals week. Retiring champion Western Bulldogs’ Brad Johnson along with finals veteran Geelong’s Cameron Mooney practically summed up their respective teams finals campaigns. Both players had minimal impact and were this week’s biggest losers.

The grand final beckons for Collingwood and St Kilda as they both cruised through their respective preliminary finals matches. Even though both clubs have posted negative returns over the last month, they were this week’s biggest gainers. The losers of both preliminary finals, Geelong and Western Bulldogs were stopped in their tracks as they ended their season with losses to their share prices of over 3%. They are now both staring down the barrel of a potential re-building phase in the next few years.

Two youngsters playing their last games of the season, Sydney’s Lewis Jetta and Fremantle’s Michael Walters, went out with a bang as they posted the biggest gains for the week. They will now be placed in cotton wool till the start of next season. Old heads, Geelong’s Cameron Mooney and Fremantle’s Des Headland were this week’s biggest losers. The weekend’s result means their respective share prices have fallen by over 50% for the year.

The winners of both semi finals, Western Bulldogs and Geelong, were the week’s biggest gainers. Coming into potentially their last game of the season next week, both clubs will look to further increase their share price. Not surprising, Sydney and Fremantle who have had very similar years and bowed out of the finals series were both labelled this week’s biggest losers.

Finals debutants Carlton’s David Ellard and Fremantle’s Anthony Morabito were not overawed by the big occasion of the finals. Both players put in massive efforts and were rewarded with modest gains on the exchange. They are this week’s biggest gainers. St Kilda’s James Blake and Geelong’s Josh Hunt were the weekend’s biggest losers as they both lost over 35% of their share price. They both live to fight another day as their respective teams are still in premiership contention.

The two winners of the elimination finals had the biggest gains in share price over weekend. Fremantle and Sydney will look to keep their dreams alive with this week’s upcoming round of finals matches. An abysmal Western Bulldogs’ side and the gallant Carlton were this week’s biggest losers. With one of these teams still in the race, the other will reload for another shot next year.

This week’s biggest gainers were two young guns in Adelaide’s Brodie Martin and Carlton’s David Ellard. Both players enjoyed big games as was reflected by their share prices rising more than 100%. Adelaide’s Ricky Henderson and Essendon’s Cale Hooker were this week’s biggest losers with both players share prices dropping by a whopping 40%. Both players can enjoy a long-awaited rest and look to increase their values next season.

Looking at the Clubs, the two biggest gainers came from the bottom 8 this week in North Melbourne and Adelaide with their impressive wins over quality competition. Both clubs enjoyed a rise of about 4%. Meanwhile, the biggest losers came from premiership hopefuls St. Kilda, Carlton and Collingwood after their weekend losses.

Hawthorn players dominated the biggest gainers list for the round. Joshua Gibson along with Chance Bateman, each respectively playing their best games for the season posted gains of over 110%.  Looking at the biggest losers for the round, Collingwood’s Harry O’Brien and Port Adelaide’s Brett Ebert were mere spectators on the weekend as they accumulated only 6 disposals between them.

Clubs having held 7th and 8th positions on the ladder at the start of the round, Hawthorn and Sydney were this week’s best performers. Both clubs belted their respective top 8 opposition teams Fremantle and Western Bulldogs who were this week’s biggest losers. All clubs are still looking to fine tune themselves in time for the finals.

Collingwood has a dilemma on their hands with young gun Jaryd Blair turning in a fantastic performance on the weekend which will surely push his credentials for a spot in the team come finals time. Along with Adelaide’s Kurt Tippett, both topped the biggest gainers list for the week. Players that were in sides that received hammerings, Richmond’s Matthew White and North Melbourne’s Lindsay Thomas were this week’s biggest losers. Both players’ share prices dropped by around 40%.

Three big Victorian clubs were this week’s biggest winners. Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn each asserted themselves in the top 8 with fantastic weekend victories. On the other side of the spectrum, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle’s losses have brought both clubs back to earth and to the top of the biggest losers list.

Both players can feel safe that they will retain their spots in their respective sides 22 with performances that has seen them rise to the top of the biggest gainers list. Collingwood’s Ben Reid and Essendon’s Mark McVeigh each playing defensive roles for their sides over the weekend were this week’s biggest losers. Both players will look to improve their share price in the last few games of the season.

Looking at the Clubs, Carlton and North Melbourne’s big wins in the context of the season helped boost their share price significantly, both clubs gained over 5% and topped the biggest gainers list. What could be season defining losses for Hawthorn and Geelong has seen them hit rock bottom as their share prices spiralled down making both the losers for the round.
