With the release of the round 3 teams yesterday, FootySX traders have already started jumping on some bandwagons and jumping off others.
Over the past 24 hours Geelong’s debutant James Podsiadly and Brisbane’s Tom Rockliff have already risen by 5%!
Meanwhile, investors have started dumping the likes of Essendon’s Ben Howlett and Adelaide’s Will Young in hopes for greater returns from other stocks.
Which strategy are you using? Waiting for Cash bonuses to reinvest over the weekend, or quietly picking the right stocks that will soar in price?
Good luck with your investments and see you on the market!

We are only two rounds in and the clubs are already jockeying for positions for the final 8.
Market Talk
For the second week in a row, Fremantle’s Michael Barlow and Melbourne’s Jordie McKenzie were the week’s biggest gainers. Both players along with Sydney’s Mark Seaby, posted gains of well over 100% for the round. Fremantle’s Garrick Ibbotson along with Hawthorn’s Campbell Brown were this week’s biggest losers. Their less than serviceable performances negatively affected their share prices.
The clubs that promised so much in the pre-season competition, Western Bulldogs and Fremantle, not only won their respective games in impressive manner, but were this week’s biggest gainers. The clubs that were this week’s biggest flops on the other hand, were two finalists from last year, Adelaide and Carlton. Both clubs’ share prices were driven down and look to be pretty good value as both clubs would surely go in as favourites in their upcoming matches.
We’ve deposited an extra $10,000 cash into everyone’s portfolio. This will give you more options when picking stocks on the weekend.
We’ve also increased the Cash bonus payouts each stock earns after a match. Users who are able to trade on the weekend can now employ a different strategy than those who aren’t able to get on during the weekend, by picking stocks in earlier matches for a high Cash bonus payout which can then use to buy stocks in later matches.

Fremantle’s Michael Barlow and Melbourne’s Jordie McKenzie were the opening round’s biggest gainers. With only a handful of games between them, both players turned in sensational performances and still offer value to potential traders with their price remaining under $1.50. The biggest losers for the round were seasoned players, Brisbane’s Amon Buchanan and Sydney’s Martin Mattner. Both players’ share price dropped over 35% as a result of their quiet games.
Looking at clubs, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Fremantle’s impressive first up wins reflected their share price with all making gains in excess of 4%. These teams will be looking to capitalise on their early season form and could be seen as potential long term stocks. On the other side of the spectrum, Adelaide and Western Bulldogs’ somewhat shock losses over the weekend resulted in their share prices plummeting well below $80.
Hi traders,
We’re implementing some changes to the game starting with the next match, Melbourne vs Hawthorn.
To make it more fair for those who cannot trade in between games on the weekend, once a match has begun it will be locked out until the entire round has been completed. This means you will not be able to sell the shares you own in matches until the very last match of the round has finished. Previously, matches were unlocked after each match was completed.
This will also make the game more strategic, as you’ll now need to take into account each match of the round when buying your stocks during the week.
Cash bonuses will still be paid out after each match, which will give you a little extra to spend on any last minute stocks on the weekend.
We would love to hear your feedback on this, so post a comment here or send the team an email: theteam@footysx.com.au

As Brisbane’s Brendan Fevola has been causing a bingle across the footy tabloids during the off-season, the FootySX team has been hard at work to bring back FootySX, The Footy Stock Exchange Game that has taken fantasy sports games by storm. Our inaugural season in 2009, gave gamers a taste of what FootySX has to offer. During the off-season the team has been busy adding new features that will benefit everyone, from the existing seasoned trader, to the new trader, with the view of building on last year’s success.
What do you expect to see?
- Prizes - End of season prizes awarded to the top 3 traders as well as weekly prizes introduced later on in the year.
Cash Bonuses - Similar to dividends in the real stock market, they have been introduced in order for traders to make money from higher priced stocks.
- Stock Projections - Allowing the trader to make informed decisions on how their stock will fair based on projected scores.
- Average Portfolios - Traders who join through the season will not be disadvantaged as their portfolio value will automatically start based on the average portfolio value of all our traders.
- … and other little goodies.
As we build on last year, we thank the FootySX fans for your continuous feedback and support and as always, we would love to hear what you think of the new updates, and would love to hear any suggestions you may have, as the game moves forward from 2010 and beyond.

Season Review
Clubs who at the start of the year were touted as the ones to look out for were indeed that. The season saw Carlton, Brisbane and St Kilda as SX’s biggest movers. Their performances throughout the year not only pleased their fans, but also their investors with very satisfying returns. Looking at the biggest losers for the season, last year’s grand finalist Hawthorn, along with Sydney, North Melbourne and Richmond can all put the 2009 season behind them and start preparing for a more positive 2010. They all look like they will be of great value when trading resumes next year.
Melbourne’s Jack Grimes, Fremantle’s Greg Broughton and North Melbourne’s Liam Anthony were all shining lights for their respective struggling clubs this year. All three made significant gains throughout the season as their performances week in week out helped improve their share price.
Retiring Melbourne player Matthew Whelan along with Geelong’s Tom Lonergan and injury plagued player West Coast’s Brett Jones were this year’s biggest losers. Their share prices all took a major hit as they all fell in excess of 80%.
Season 2010 will be bigger and better than ever, with the ground work already set in place. We, the SX team, will be striving to bring you the very best features to improve your overall experience.
Thank you for your support in helping our quest to make FootySX Australia’s premier footy game.
The last week in September awaits! This is the final week where your investments will stand up and be counted!
Market Talk
Collingwood’s Brent Macaffer, who has featured twice in as many weeks as the biggest gainer of the round, along with Western Bulldog Dale Morris and St Kilda’s Raphael Clarke, all saw their share prices make significant gains. St Kilda’s Robert Eddy along with Collingwood’s John Anthony and Brad Dick were this week’s biggest losers. All three players lost a lot of ground that was gained throughout the year. They now look like very delicious prospects for next year.
Preliminary final winners St Kilda and Geelong were this week’s biggest gainers. Their respective gritty weekend victories saw their share prices rise up marginally. Western Bulldogs’ and Collingwood’s share prices took major dives as their weekend losses saw them lose 9% and 8% respectively. They have both been labelled as this week’s biggest losers.
Four clubs remain. The September dream is still alive for one of these hopefuls. Put your money on your pick for the flag and watch your portfolio rise!

Collingwood’s Steele Sidebottom and Brent Macaffer both playing the games of their life, rewarded their investors with huge returns of 100% and 65% respectively, becoming the biggest gainers of the round. Aging Adelaide player Brett Burton and Brisbane’s Jack Redden were this week’s biggest losers. Both players can look forward to increasing their value next year.
Looking at clubs, it’s no big surprise that the two winning clubs over the weekend are also the biggest gainers of the round. Collingwood and Western Bulldogs both showed why they were top 4 material, as their wins not only booked them a spot in the Preliminary Finals but they were rewarded as this week’s biggest gainers. The biggest losers of the round, Adelaide and Brisbane, both lost close to 10% and would be good value for investors next year!
